21’ recognition on Wednesday 13 April 2011 in Paris. ‘Local Agenda 21’ status was granted by Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, minister for sustainable development, transport and housing, and accepted by Daniel Mio, president of the Scarpe-Escaut Regional Nature Park. This means that the measures set out in the Park Charter regarding the 55 communes that make up the areas in and around Douai and Valenciennes contribute to the implementation of the national strategies of France and other signatory countries at the Rio international conference on sustainable development:

To combat climate change and protect the atmosphere

To preserve biodiversity and protect natural environments and resources

To help all human beings to thrive and prosper

To work towards greater social cohesion between regions and generations

To seek to develop responsible production methods and consumption patterns
