Chabaud-Latour pond and La Canarderie Sensitive Nature Sites

Straddling Condé-sur-l'Escaut, a commune within the Regional Nature Park, and Saint-Aybert, this site’s mining past is clearly evident. Slag heaps, ponds, reed beds and wet grasslands have been much affected by mining subsidence and water-pumping-station activity.

This vast complex of wetlands, covering 670 ha (200 ha of which belong to the Nord department), contains particularly remarkable fauna and flora. Thanks to the presence of species such as the Eurasian bittern and little bittern, it represents one of the key ornithological sites in Scarpe-Escaut Regional Nature Parkbutoretoilé©PhilippeNoverrazbutor étoilé©Vincent Gavériaux
The site has extensive public access, with a number of viewing points provided on top of slag heaps and close to reed beds.
